Guided visualization to train your inner eye

6 sessions16 to 29 minintermediate

Visualization trains your imagination one sense at a time. Follow a butterfly's flight with your inner eye, feel the weight and coldness of a key in your open hand, or track a singing bowl approaching from afar with your inner ear. Then bring the senses together at the summit of an extinct volcano or in a spaceship cockpit, and finally rebuild a room you know by heart as the evening light falls into it.

Sessions last 16 to 29 minutes and are marked as intermediate. They suit anyone who finds it hard to picture things, as well as those who want to prepare for deeper journeys. Working on one sense at a time makes progress easier, and the skills you build here carry over to the rest of the app.

The sessions

  1. Film — a Butterfly Flies Beside You

    18 min · intermediate

Follow a butterfly with your eyes, in imagination: its path, its corrections, the gust that pushes it off course.

  2. Touch — the Key in Your Hand

    17 min · intermediate

A key resting in an open hand: its weight, its coldness, the slight downward pull when you lift it.

  3. Hearing — the Distant Singing Bowl

    16 min · intermediate

A singing bowl approaching from afar: follow both its distance and its direction, with the inner ear alone.

  4. Bringing the Three Senses Together — Summit of a Volcano

    29 min · intermediate

At the summit of an extinct volcano, build a complete landscape with sight, hearing and touch together.

  5. Bringing the Three Senses Together — the Ship Exploring the Galaxy

    28 min · intermediate

In a spacecraft’s cockpit, watch the star field slide by and find the same triangle from one edge of the window to the other.

  6. The Room You Know

    27 min · intermediate

Rebuild a room you know by heart, then let the evening light fall into it, shadow after shadow.

Frequently asked questions

What if I cannot see images in my mind?

That is very common. These sessions work on each sense separately, so you can start with touch or hearing if images feel difficult. Visualization is a skill that grows with practice.

What is the difference between visualization and meditation?

Visualization is one way of meditating. Instead of only observing what is there, you build sights, sounds or sensations in your imagination. It trains attention and makes the longer guided journeys in the app richer and easier to follow.

In what order should I follow them?

Start with the single-sense sessions, the butterfly, the key and the singing bowl, then move on to the sessions that combine the three senses. The Room You Know is a good one to finish with.
